Heart-breaking, but true The nurse mare and foal industry mainly remains underground. Not only are nurse mares kept to care for orphan foals, but thousands are used as surrogate mares in the performance industry. Their foals are bi-products of this cruel and heartless industry and can be left to struggle and fend for themselves at just days of age, many end up in feedlots known for their pony skins. The farms can often be found nearby race-tracks. Reach Out to Horses teamed up with a number of rescues on the East Coast to support several mares and foals in need. Everyone can help these youngsters on their road of success through supporting their needs in all ways. On this rare occasion you can watch the progress these young souls made during the 6-day ROTH foal gentling clinic, but especially in this first day.
